Snehalayam CSI High School for the Deaf, a Residential High School for the hearing-impaired children was started appropriately in 1981, the international year for the disabled as a social action venture of CSI North Kerala Diocese under the patronage of Rt. Rev. Dr.K.C. Seth the then Bishop of North Kerala Diocese on 14th December 1981.
The school had a humble start with thirty students and a teacher. In the beginning the school functioned in the ‘Mission Bungalow’ near the CSI Church Kunnamkulam with the financial support of KNH and Compassion of India and is registered under charitable societies act. Later with the help of various organisations like KNH, Carithas, CSI-CCC and CCCYC buildings for school and students hostel constructed and relocated to the new building in 1991. By that time the school became a full-fledged high school. In 1993 the school got permanent recognition from the government and within a short span of time, in 1996 obtained full grant-in -aid status also. The school came under CMS Corporate Management in Cochin area in 2003 from single management. The school completed 25 years of fruitful existence and celebrated silver jubilee in the year 2006.
